Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 12, 2026 · Last updated: May 12, 2026
Kniknak LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Kniknak mobile application and the kniknak.app website, a community for AI-generated content where you can chat with AI assistants, create images, use voice features, follow other users, and share content (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Service.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, display name, and (optionally) your profile picture, bio, and date of birth. If you sign in through a third-party provider (such as Apple, Google, or another supported identity provider), we receive the basic profile information that provider shares with us in accordance with your settings.
Content You Create or Submit
We collect the content you create or submit through the Service, including messages and prompts sent to AI assistants, images generated through the Service, voice inputs, posts, comments, direct messages, follows, blocks, and reports you file against other users or content.
Subscription and Purchase Information
If you purchase a subscription or in-app product through the Apple App Store or Google Play, those stores process your payment and share with us a transaction identifier, product identifier, and subscription status. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
Usage Data
We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including features used, assistants you interact with, session duration, screens viewed, in-app actions, crash reports, and performance metrics.
Device and Technical Data
We automatically collect technical information including your IP address, device model, operating system and version, app version, language and locale, mobile network information, and device identifiers.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Service — including processing your prompts, generating AI responses, generating images, transcribing or synthesizing voice, delivering messages, and showing you content from people you follow.
- Process subscriptions and entitlements — including verifying purchases with Apple and Google and unlocking the features your plan includes.
- Keep the community safe — including reviewing reports, enforcing our content rules, blocking abusive accounts, and removing objectionable content.
- Improve the Service — using aggregated, de-identified usage analytics and crash reports to understand how the Service is used and to fix bugs.
- Communicate with you — including responding to support inquiries, sending service announcements, and (where you have opted in) sending notifications about new features.
- Comply with legal obligations — including responding to lawful requests and meeting regulatory requirements.
We do NOT use your private content — your messages with AI assistants, your direct messages, or images you generate — to train AI models. Your private content is not used to improve or fine-tune any machine learning models.
3. AI Providers and Third-Party Processors
To deliver AI features, we send the prompts and inputs you submit to AI model providers that run the underlying models. These providers process your inputs solely to generate the response and, under their API agreements, do not use those inputs to train their models. AI providers we currently use include Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI.
- Service providers — We use third parties for cloud hosting, content delivery, analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, and customer support. They process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
- App stores — Apple and Google process your purchases and provide us with subscription status updates.
- Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
- Business transfers — In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
4. Public, Social, and Shared Content
Some information you provide is public by design. Your username, display name, profile picture, bio, and content you post publicly can be viewed by other users of the Service. Direct messages are visible to the recipient. When you follow, block, or report another user, the relevant action is recorded so we can enforce the resulting relationship and review reports.
Please think carefully before posting personal information you do not want others to see.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- Encryption — All data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest in our cloud infrastructure.
- Access controls — Internal access to personal data is restricted to personnel who need it to operate the Service.
- Audit logging — We log administrative actions for compliance and oversight.
No system is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you of a material breach as required by law.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain information for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, or regulatory reasons (for example, transaction records).
You can delete specific content (posts, messages, images) at any time from within the app. You can delete your entire account from your profile settings, or by emailing support@kniknak.app from the address tied to your account.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data.
- Portability — Request a machine-readable copy of your data.
- Restriction — Request that we limit how we process your data.
- Objection — Object to our processing of your data for certain purposes.
- Withdraw consent — Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@kniknak.app from the address associated with your account.
8. Push Notifications and Tracking
We may send push notifications about activity in the app (messages, replies, mentions, account alerts). You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.
On iOS, in accordance with Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, we will request your permission before any tracking across apps and websites owned by other companies takes place. You can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the higher minimum age applicable in your country, such as 16 in parts of the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable age. If we learn that we have collected data from a child below the applicable age, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact support@kniknak.app.
10. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. When we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or equivalent mechanisms.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at support@kniknak.app.
